Can I close my ePay merchant account?

Can you close my ePay merchant account? Yes, you can! If you've decided that you no longer need a merchant account, you can close it by submitting a limit change. If you set your limits to $0 for both deposits and withdrawals, we will close your ePay account. We will process your request to close your ePay account within three to five business days.

If you are one of our Canadian customers, or your ePay-enabled bank account has a foreign owner, then you will need to close your ePay merchant account by completing an Account Closure Request form and sending it in to Forte Payment Systems. Requests for cancellation for Forte-managed ePay accounts received prior to the close of business on the last business day of the month, will be processed on or about the 5th day of the following month.

Once a merchant account is closed, it cannot be reopened. If you're simply looking to change banks, see "Can I change the bank account that my merchant account is tied to?"

If you're like to suspend online payment activity before the merchant account is closed, you can disable EFT/eCheck and credit card payments for each property that is tied to the approved bank account.

To disable your properties for ePay:

  • Navigate to Accounting > Banking, then click on the approved bank account.
  • Select the Properties tab, then click Edit ePay methods.
    • All properties that are associated with this bank account are now shown. A green check indicates that EFT and/or Credit Card are enabled for this property.
  • To disable a single property, simply uncheck the box for EFT and Credit Card. To disable all properties at once, use the check boxes next to the EFT and Credit Card headers.
